This is Ashley Ray’s Weekly Watchlist. It’s just a giant list of everything she watched last week and what she thought. At TV, I Say, we promise: there are no spoilers below. Enjoy.
What Is Ashley Ray Watching?
Sunday
Last Week Tonight (HBO) - John is back after a week off and he is rightfully very angry about in-school arrests. The man still has the best late night news show on TV and he’s talking about all the things he needs to be talking about this season.
Barry (HBO) - HOLY SHIT. HOLY SHIT. JUST WOW. WOW. The part where NoHo Hank was like “I thought that’s what you were doing, but didn’t wanna be rude”??? So funny. This season feels like something special and I love Sally falling apart.
Duncanville (FOX) - The Great North and Bob’s Burgers ended, so we got two new Duncanville episodes. The one about teen arcades hit close to home and then it got to the part about the rats and it was too close to home (my car was taken over by rats last week).
90 Day Fiancé (Discovery+) - I mean, KEEP reading my weekly reviews! I hate Ari and I need Melissa to kick her face.
Pistols (Hulu) - I talked about this one last week, but I finally finished it and I think I was a little too harsh on it. It’s not that it’s a good show, though, it just reminded me of my punk rock youth and nostalgia is in right now. Also, it made me wanna listen to Pretenders, a far better band than Sex Pistols.
The Family Chantal (Discovery+) - I gave up on this show after season one, but now I’m back because I have nothing else to watch!!! I think Chantal y Pedro might actually break up!
Monday + Tuesday
TV is so slow right now, there was nothing to watch!
Wednesday
Married At First Sight (Hulu) - I started watching the Boston season because I was a guest host on 420 Day Fiancé (a podcast you should absolutely go check out), but I never watched MAFS before. It is my professional opinion that Lindsey is the worst.
The Deep End (Freeform) - This is one of the best modern cult documentaries ever made.
Thursday
Hacks (HBO) - Hacks ended and I had to explain to everyone why it wasn’t a series finale (comedians who have just experienced success are not comedians who are going to stay stable for long). Anyway, I loved this season. Better than the first. Deborah Vance, please become a real person for me.
The Staircase (HBO) - As The Staircase comes to a close, I realize it gave us everything we wanted from The Undoing. The problem is, The Staircase is a real story with real people and The Undoing was (disappointing) high drama. It creates a dissonance that ultimately doesn’t respect the victim at the center of The Staircase. Wanna read more? Head over to SheKnows where I wrote all about it!
Girls5eva (Peacock) - I don’t know why Peacock won’t promote the hell out of this show, but obviously Winnie falling in love with the guy from The Wire is absolutely excellent.
The Boys (Prime Video) - Holy shit, The Boys are back in town and I’m so happy (and horny) about it. You get to watch new episodes every Thursday. I already finished the season and promise you it is very good.
Friday
Ziwe (Showtime) - The gay episode with Adam Pally was obviously so good, but until Ziwe does an episode in flannel, no one is confusing her for gay. I’m sorry. She is our best ally, though.
I Love That For You (Showtime) - We got two episodes for Memorial Weekend, so technically there wasn’t a new episode last week, but everything about that sex scene in the newest episode was A+ comedy TV. Also, I want to give Matt Rogers an Emmy for the moment when he walked in on those two people fucking and then looked again.
Physical (Apple TV) - A lot of people say this show is hard to watch because people have a hard time with female villains, but this show is back and I love this mean, angry, hungry bitch. Just great performances and I love a period piece! Sorry! Minx is gone so hey, there’s this!
Coming up:
Angelyne on Peacock.
A British man I hooked up with is trying to convince me to start Love Island. Will he win? Stay tuned to find out.
Fairfax season two on Prime Video.
Queer As Folk reboot on Peacock.
Maybe I will finally force myself to watch the new episodes of Stranger Things.
The Janes, this is a documentary film on HBO and not a series, but it is punk rock and I encourage you all to watch it.
