Peacockin' w/ Sam Sanders and Zach Stafford
Ashley also covers 90 Day: The Other Way, American Auto and other TV tidbits
I know I usually tell you who’s on the podcast at the end, but COME ON. Let’s get right to it!! I got Sam Sanders and Zach Stafford from Vibe Check (and Into It) today! Look, this episode is all TV tea opinions. Was THAT episode of The Last of Us really that good? What do our moms think of SNL? Has Peacock become that girl for all your streaming needs? Sam also finds out about the cancellation of Reboot in real time. We all got together in the studio to make this one happen, it’s a great time!
Also, I have some GREAT live shows this week:
LA - High Gear Comedy - Thursday, 2/9 at 8pm - The Airliner
The Airliner is closing so this will be the last High Gear for awhile!! We had to stack the lineup for you and we have Adam Conover, Victoria Vincent, Clare O’Kane, Debra DiGiovanni and more!
LA - Heartbreakers Comedy - Friday, 2/10 at 7pm - The Silverlake Lounge
John Early. Nori Reed. Jared Goldstein. Christine Medrano. Hosted by me and Amber Rollo. What else is there to say?
TV Tidbits
Here’s some random TV news and thoughts. Wanna talk more about specific shows? Join the Patreon! You can even tell me what to watch, then we’ll talk about it!
Am I still obsessed with Extreme Sisters (TLC)? Yes. I would follow these two INTO WAR.
I am once again begging you to watch American Auto (Peacock, NBC/Hulu)!! I loved the joke Ana Gasteyer’s character made in last week’s episode about feeling as useless as a condom in Nick Cannon’s wallet! This week’s episode had Andy Richter!! Get it together and go watch some great comedy! Speaking of that, when will Gasteyer host SNL!??!
Pedro Pascal did a great job on SNL last weekend. Obviously, we all loved the steak sketch.
I’ve been watching a lot of really bad documentaries on Netflix, I don’t know why. I watched a German one about police being really bad at solving murders.
Below Deck was SO GOOD this week! Look, I love Capt. Sandy, I’ve made that so clear, but if she told me we had to play volleyball to bond? I would be upset. At the same time, WHY ARE YOU SHITTALKING THE CAPTAIN?? She can hear you! This crew is finally providing some good mess.
Abbott Elementary is back tonight! I think maybe The Goldbergs is too?
I am watching How I Met Your Father and Night Court, we’re talking about it over on the Patreon. Might I be inspired to write a multi-cam?
I’m afraid Young Rock is being killed off, it has this weird time slot now and people aren’t talking about it. I like it!
I started the Real Gay Friends of Weho or whatever, did you know Issa Rae is in the first episode? Why did they keep that a secret?
Cunk on Earth (Netflix) is very good and I’d love if you watched it. It’s rare a woman gets to play such a dry, funny role.
90 Day: The Other Way Recap
S4.E2 - “To Have Peace There Must Be Strife”
There are SPOILERS for 90 Day: The Other Way below, so stop reading if you don’t want that!
Let’s get it out of the way: I need Daniele sent to jail. I don’t believe in jail. I am an abolitionist. But, I think if you go to another country, lie to your husband about filling out his visa paperwork, and then force him to get multiple jobs to support you in a country where you can’t work and where he doesn’t want to stay? Well, you deserve some kind of punishment.
It’s even worse that Daniele comes into Yohan’s life and country and insults everything! Yohan tells her this isn’t her country and he knows what he’s doing, but she clearly just doesn’t trust him. I hope Yohan leaves her when he realizes what she’s doing. Were the flies on the meat gross? Yeah, but he seems to know what he’s doing!
Ok, let’s talk about Nicole and Mahmoud. Nicole is absolutely silly. In my opinion, Mahmoud is being very direct and clear about what he wants: a traditional wife. She seems to think he’ll make an exception for her and she won’t have to follow this rule. She’s then shocked when she goes to Egypt and he’s like “Yeah, I want you to follow my religion and dress this way.” Even though…you know, he told her it would be that way! I think her friends are right to tell her this is a mistake. They didn’t even know they were back together. Why save this marriage, girl? You knew each other for a day!
Kris and Jeymi are adorable, but everything with this relationship feels so uneasy. Why is Kris so distant sometimes? Why is Jeymi so quick to cheat? I love how happy Jeymi is to know who she is, but I think she’s rushing into a serious relationship with a woman she barely knows. One thing though? She definitely wants to look hot for Kris. She got the hair done, bought some new lingerie, she’s really into her! I just think Kris is going to be overwhelmed…something is off….
We meet Isabel and her kids! They love Gabe and accept him for who he is, but Isabel is afraid of telling her parents. At the end of the day, Gabe and Isabel are marrying each other and that’s what matters. It looks like Gabe will have a good support system with her and her kids, so I hope this isn’t too bad of a situation. I loved Isabel’s daughter saying that Gabe is the first of her mom’s boyfriends that she’s ever liked talking to. I was worried Gabe wouldn’t be ready for kids since his sister said he didn’t want to date a woman with kids before. Maybe it’s easier because they’re teenagers.
Jen. Poor, poor Jen. Ignoring every red flag Jen! She admits to her friends that Rishi’s parents don’t know they’re dating. They also don’t know they’re getting married. Her friends decide to test Rishi by catfishing him to see if he responds. Obviously, he does within MINUTES! His message isn’t incriminating, but why is your man talking to random instathots, Jen?? Ask yourself some questions girl! Get real!
That was it for this week’s episode. I am most excited to watch Nicole and Mahmoud implode because I hate when Americans go to another country and think everyone will make exceptions for them!
There’s no new episode this weekend! The Other Way will be back on 2/19.
I started American Auto based on this newletter's plea and finished it in one weekend! I love it! Thank you Ashley!
Watched the first of ep of Cunk on Netflix last night and really enjoyed the performance and writing. It's a joke every 5 seconds including (paraphrasing) "The ancient Greeks didn't just invent theatre, they also invented another theatre for stupid people called sports."
Will be thinking about that as I prepare to host a superbowl party this week...
